Dance For Joy! is an immersive performance workshop series with two goals:
To allow students to dive deeper into their favorite classes and learn more about the origins of the movements.
Build a community at Cumbe where everyone, regardless of income level, can experience the joy of African & Diaspora dance on a regular basis. Ideally, we want this to be the start of an ongoing weekly dance/drum practice!
-
Workshops run September 26th through December 7th, with two culminating performances (optional) on December 8th. Please check the Dance For Joy! Schedule for more information.
-
Take as many as your schedule allows!!! This is a great opportunity to try new styles and fill your fall with dance. However, we ask that you limit your participation in the performance to 3 workshops (beyond that, the performance logistics get quite challenging.)
-
This is the ‘building a community’ part! Classes in this series are donation based ($5 - $45). If you can, we invite you to contribute $20 - $45; your contribution will help us create a community at Cumbe where everyone can afford to take classes.
-
Everyone! We especially welcome current students and encourage you to help us spread the word.
-
Yes! You may use your classcard for this series. You may also contribute a bit more or reserve your classcard for classes that are not a part of the series. Let our studio assistants know if you’d like an extension on your class card.
-
Speak to one of our studio assistants and ask for them to update payment to your preferred donation amount.
-
All students will have the opportunity to perform in two Dance for Joy! performances on Sunday, December 8 at the Billie Holiday Theatre. Invite your family and friends to learn something new on this day and take joy in viewing participants performing choreographed dances learned in this explorative journey.
