Embark on a soulful journey in our Haitian dance class, part of the Dance for Joy workshop series. Led by the renowned Julio Jean, this class immerses you in the rich traditions of Haitian dance, where you’ll explore the rhythms, songs, and rituals of the Vodou religion, connecting with the Iwa (gods) through movement. Drawing from the deep roots of West Africa and the South American Amazon, you’ll feel the undulating movements of Yanvalu, the powerful precision of Nago, and the grace of the Kongo. With Julio’s extensive experience as a dancer and teaching artists you’ll gain a profound understanding of traditional Haitian dance. This 10-week, donation-based class is open to all levels, offering a community-driven experience that honors the spiritual and cultural essence of Haiti through dance and music.
