We are thrilled to have RISE, Cumbe’s first community-based dance company, funded by NYSCA as a part of our Dance for Joy! performance workshop series. This powerful journey begins with the Haitian Yanvalou rhythm to bless the space and culminates in a celebration of women’s empowerment, symbolizing the strength to rise above adversity like a Phoenix. As a member of the Cumbe RISE Community Dance Company, you’ll explore the roots of vernacular Jazz, delve into Dunham’s movement vocabulary, and experiment with traditional modern Jazz motifs. Through this high-energy, 10-week workshop, you’ll create a dynamic Jazz movement piece while embracing fun, freedom of expression, and artistic improvisation. Open to dancers of all skill levels, this donation-based class is a unique opportunity to connect with a community, express your power and grace, and be part of something truly inspiring.
