Get your body moving, your waistline rolling and feel the vibrant spirit of Congolese dance to the lively sounds of the Ngoma Drum with Master Artist Andoche Loubaki. This Congolese dance class will introduce you to some of the sacred dances and celebratory rhythms of the heart of Africa, the Congo. Class begins with an invigorating warm-up with body isolations and stretches, slides into learning about different dances in the Congolese tradition and is accompanied with song. You’ll be invited to use the drums in this class. Storytelling, dance and drum coming together and depicting an honest picture of Congolese musical heritage and celebration.

  • Born and raised in the Congo, Andoche Loubaki began his dance career in the capital, Brazzaville, in 1998 with the renowned choreographer Louis Causete. Two years later, with a passion for music as well as for dance, he joined the percussion group Toubillon as a drummer and learned to play the Ngoma drum. In 2013 Andoche started working with ballet ‘Ngoma Za Kongo’, literally meaning ‘Drums of the Kongo’, he toured with them in Gabon, Senegal, Libya and Malta. Eventually, they were invited by Africa Mondo Productions to tour the United States to bring different traditions and sounds from different regions of Congo to the American audiences. Today, Andoche continues to share music and dance of the Congo with his performing company, ‘Mfouambila’, which means ‘groove’, throughout the US.
