Come and Celebrate Cumbe’s New Home with Three Kings Revelry!
Bring your friends and family to dance and mingle while raising funds to support Cumbe’s programs and artists. It will be a festive afternoon of dance & drum demonstrations and mini-workshops from Brazil, Haiti and Cuba.
- Batalá NY, all-women Afro-Brazilian samba reggae percussion band
- Julio Jean, renowned Afro-Haitian dancer, choreographer, teacher and musician
- Stevie Insua, electrifying performer and teacher, former member of Conjunto Folklórico Nacional de Cuba
Batalá, Julio and Stevie will give a brief overview of the common African roots of Brazilian, Haitian and Cuban dance, as well as Three Kings Day traditions in each region. We’ll then launch right into demonstrations by each artist, as well as Afro-Haitian and Afro-Cuban dance workshops.
Together, we can continue Cumbe’s vision of bringing ashé, the power of spirit of African and Diaspora dance, into our lives.
From offering dance and drum classes at affordable prices, to honoring our teaching artists and musicians, to bringing the love of African and Diaspora dance to schools and a larger community, your support will sustain us and help us grow!
