Project Description

Lamine Thiam

Lamine Thiam

Lamine Thiam is a world-renowned dancer, choreographer, drummer and actor, and specializes in West African Dance from his native Senegal and neighboring countries, including rhythms such as Sabar, Djembe, and Bougarrabou. He has graced the stage at venues worldwide including Carnegie Hall, Symphony Space, The United Nations and Lincoln Center (NY), as well as theaters in Japan, Germany, London, Mexico and the Caribbean.

Lamine is happy to be back to bring love to his Sabar students. His classes are designed to teach different styles of West African dance with an emphasis on high energy, fun, and the healthy benefits of a great workout. All classes start with a very thorough stretching warm-up. Live drumming, an explanation of the rhythm of the dance, and a focused teaching approach of breaking down the steps lead to an exciting experience of rhythmic movement. Classes are open to men and women at all levels and ages.

Lamine teaches West African dance (Djembe & Sabar styles) at our Gibney Dance location. Check the weekly schedule for dates.
