DanceAfrica is Here!

Chuck Davis’ 35th annual celebration of African and Diaspora Dance at the Brooklyn Academy of Music takes place this Memorial Day Weekend! Stop by Cumbe's table at the DanceAfrica Bazaar for free dance and drum demonstrations and enter drawings for free goodies. Our dance studio is also open all weekend and we have an exciting schedule of special classes, including West African dance with Ismael Koumate from Fela! See the schedule at left. For M'Bemba's DunDun Drum & Dance workshop, make sure to bring your own drums & sticks.

DanceAfrica is Coming!

Chuck Davis' 35th annual celebration of African and Diaspora Dance at the Brooklyn Academy of Music takes place on Memorial Day Weekend. Cumbe will have a table at the DanceAfrica Bazaar - be sure to stop by for dance and drum demonstrations! This Saturday, May 19: Check out a HOT new class: Agua! Afro-Caribbean Dance with Franck Muhel, Saturdays 4:30-6:00 Please note that two classes will be cancelled on Saturday, May 19 because the instructors will be in the New York Dance Parade: Afro-Colombian (formerly 3-4:30, starting next week at a new time: 2-3:30) and West African (3-4:30). Daniel Fetecua will be teaching his Afro-Colombian class for free at the New York Dance Parade Dance Fest in Tompkins Square Park at 3:00 pm.
